Our client has an opportunity available for an experienced Veterinary Technician to join their fast-paced, AAHA-accredited, 24-hour emergency & specialty hospital in Pittsburgh, PA as a Technician Supervisor. Primary responsibility will be within their emergency department; however, you’ll also collaborate with their specialty departments. Their specialties include: Internal Medicine, Surgery, ZooMed, Emergency, and Critical Care, Integrative Medicine, and Canine Rehabilitation. The ideal candidate will meet the following requirements:
Certified veterinary technician (preferred) with a minimum of five years technical experience, preferably in an ER setting; prior management/supervisory skills are preferred.
Professional demeanor and appearance, excellent interpersonal skills, and a positive, friendly attitude
Ability to plan, organize, make decisions, and communicate effectively and clearly with fellow team members, clients, and doctors
Able to handle multiple tasks at once, and deal with high levels of stress in an environment of changing priorities
Must be able to work full-time hours, flexibility a must, including occasional holidays
Strong medical skills
In the supervisor role, you will primarily be responsible for, but not limited to:
Directing the workflow on the floor
Help with the interview process for potential new hires
Assists in staffing and coverage where needed
Assists in the educational development of technicians and their skills
Assists in basic protocol and standard procedure training
Provide opportunities for staff to gain more first-hand experience
Mentoring technicians within the department
Working with department doctors to develop protocols to improve the service
Ensure that policies, guidelines, and recommendations are implemented by all members of the Technical staff.
This position is a working supervisory position that is responsible for the leadership and the supervision of their emergency staff, with the support of other Supervisors, the Hospital Manager, and the Medical Director.
